Here I just unbolted the
different parts, bagged, and labeled everything. I already had
the engine and transmission out so there was not much to do here
other that remove the dash, windshield, and unbolt the car from the
frame.
There are 12 bolts that hold the body on the
frame. I removed them with an impact wrench. I only had
problems with 2 of them. One bolt broke off the others nut
started spinning in the body. To remove this one I used a
4" grinder with a cutoff wheel and cut the head of the bolt
off. Then I used a cherry picker and lifted the body from the
frame. To do this I used a section of heavy duty chain and
bolted it to the firewall and used the cherry picker and lifted the
front of the body high enough to get a 4X4 between the body and the
frame and rest it on saw horses. Then I took the same chain
and wrapped it around the trunk lock support and used the cherry
picker to pick up the rear of the car high enough to get another 4X4
under the rear part of the rocker panel. At this point I can
roll the frame from under the car. I have noticed one spot on
the frame where a body bolt was that will need some attention.
It appears the hole is larger than it should be. It looks like
it rusted out to about the size of the washer beneath the body
mount.
I plan to have the entire frame powder coated so now I need
to find someone who does this locally.
